How Color Shifts Can Ruin Your Business Card
Don't use rich shades of blue, green or purple (see graphic blow ) as the main colors in your biz card design. These rich, vibrant colors cannot be correctly reproduced when the card is actually printed with "Process" color printing, the system printers use to create full-color items like biz cards. Your computer monitor can produce these colors, but the Process color system used by professional printers cannot, so darker/faded colors are substituted, causing disappointing results.
Seeing is Believing
Look at the sample biz card layouts below. The sample at top has two of main culprit colors that do not translate well when printed professionally...royal blue and a rich/bright green. Let's say you are in the approval process for your biz card and you approve the first image below as the final design.
The image at bottom is an example of how the card may actually look when the cards are printed out. Notice the huge color shifts and how the bright/vibrant blues and greens have now become darker?
